The history of San Floro dates back to the Middle Ages with more recent activity in the Magna Grecia period where colonists used the rich, lush vegetation for livestock and timber. Later during the 1300 – 1700’s the area was renowned for its silk production and The San Floro Silk Museum is housed within the walls of Caracciolo Castle.

The city's marina, Catanzaro Lido approx. 18km, is the capital's Blue Flag seaside resort, offering family-friendly lidos, a public beach, a marina, a promenade, and numerous clubs that liven up the nightlife all year round.

On the west coast is the town of Lamezia approx. 45km away, where there is a vast array of amenities; shops, boutiques, supermarkets, banks café bars, restaurants to name but a few.

There are zones of archaeological interest including the Norman-Swabian Castle at Nicastro, the Benedictine Abbey of S. Maria at Santa Eufemia and the area of Giardini di Renda, where many artefacts have been found.
